For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Cadillac Escalade IQ are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The VinFast VF 8 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Escalade IQ and VF 8 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Escalade IQ has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The VF 8’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Escalade IQ are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

A passive infrared night vision system standard on the Escalade IQ Premium helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ’s rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the VinFast VF 8 does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Both the Escalade IQ and VF 8 have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the Escalade IQ has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The VF 8’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Escalade IQ and the VF 8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ weighs 3565 to 3708 pounds more than the VinFast VF 8. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Escalade IQ’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the VF 8’s (unlimited vs. 125000 miles).

There are over 16 times as many Cadillac dealers as there are VinFast dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Escalade IQ’s warranty.

Engine

The Escalade IQ’s electric motors produces 401 more horsepower (750 vs. 349) and 416 lbs.-ft. more torque (785 vs. 369) than the VF 8 Eco’s standard electric motors. The Escalade IQ’s electric motors produces 348 more horsepower (750 vs. 402) and 328 lbs.-ft. more torque (785 vs. 457) than the VF 8 Plus’ standard electric motors.

As tested in Car and Driver the Cadillac Escalade IQ is faster than the VF 8 Plus:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Escalade IQ has larger tires than the VF 8 (275/50R24 vs. 225/55R19). The Escalade IQ’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the VF 8 (275/50R24 vs. 245/45R20).

The Escalade IQ’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the VF 8 Eco’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Escalade IQ has standard 24-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the VF 8 Eco. The VF 8’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The VinFast VF 8 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Escalade IQ has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The VF 8 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the Escalade IQ uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the VF 8, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Escalade IQ has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The VF 8’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Escalade IQ has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Escalade IQ’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Escalade IQ’s wheelbase is 20.1 inches longer than on the VF 8 (136.2 inches vs. 116.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Escalade IQ is 3.7 inches wider in the front and 3.1 inches wider in the rear than on the VF 8.

For better maneuverability, the Escalade IQ’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the VF 8’s (39.3 feet vs. 40.6 feet). The Escalade IQL’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the VF 8’s (39.9 feet vs. 40.6 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Escalade IQ has a greater minimum ground clearance than the VF 8 (6.9 vs. 6.8 inches), allowing the Escalade IQ to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

For excellent aerodynamics, the Escalade IQ has standard flush composite headlights. The VF 8 has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The front grille of the Escalade IQ uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The VF 8 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Escalade IQ uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The VF 8 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver while at idle, the interior of the Escalade IQ Sport is quieter than the VF 8 Plus (31 vs. 36 dB).

Passenger Space

The Escalade IQ has standard seating for 7 passengers; the VF 8 can only carry 5.

Cargo Capacity

The Escalade IQ’s cargo area provides more volume than the VF 8.

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the Escalade IQ’s second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The VF 8 doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

Towing

The Escalade IQ’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the VF 8’s (7500 vs. 3968 pounds).

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Escalade IQ uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The VF 8 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the VF 8 Plus, the Escalade IQ Premium has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Escalade IQ’s standard Keyless Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Passive Entry standard on the VF 8 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Escalade IQ Premium’s power side swing out doors make it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the sport utility. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a power rear door.

The VF 8’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The Escalade IQ’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Escalade IQ to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The VF 8 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Escalade IQ’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The VF 8’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The Escalade IQ Premium has standard massaging front and rear seats (rear massaging seats optional on Premium). Massaging seats aren’t available in the VF 8.

Compared to the VinFast VF 8, the Cadillac Escalade IQ eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its standard integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the infotainment system.

The Escalade IQ is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access to more content and better coverage than the VF 8, which solely provides FM radio. With AM radio, you can enjoy a wider variety of stations featuring news, talk shows, sports commentary, native language programing, automated traffic guidance, and emergency broadcasts. AM waves travel further and penetrate buildings and obstacles more effectively than FM signals, especially at night. Having both FM and AM stereo radios the Escalade IQ offers a more comprehensive listening experience compared to only FM in the VF 8.

HD Radio boasts several benefits over conventional radio: superior sound quality with clearer and consistent FM broadcasts, CD-quality audio, and Multicast Channels offering up to four streams from a single station, adding programming choices. Cars like the Escalade IQ equipped with available HD Radio provide an improved in-car entertainment experience. The VF 8, devoid of this technology, foregoes these benefits. Selecting the Cadillac Escalade IQ empowers drivers to enjoy a more immersive and enjoyable listening experience while on the go.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ stands out above the VinFast VF 8 by offering not one, but two Qi-compatible phone chargers in the front seat. This convenience helps travelers with multiple devices to keep powered up on-the-go. Wireless charging eliminates lost or cluttered charging cables and two of them provide more flexibility. The Escalade IQ Premium also offers an optional two-device Qi charging system for the second row seat and the VF 8 doesn’t.

The Escalade IQ has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Escalade IQ’s Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Auto Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The VF 8 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Recommendations

The Cadillac Escalade outsold the VinFast VF 8 by almost 9 to one during 2024.
