From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 3 places higher in reliability than Jeep.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Blazer V6’s fuel efficiency. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Both the Blazer and the Grand Cherokee have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All Blazers have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. A disable switch for start/stop is only offered on the Grand Cherokee V6.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Chevrolet Blazer, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Grand Cherokee.

The Blazer stops much shorter than the Grand Cherokee:

The Blazer’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 65 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Grand Cherokee Laredo’s standard 70 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Blazer has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Grand Cherokee Laredo.

The Chevrolet Blazer’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Jeep Grand Cherokee only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Blazer RS AWD handles at .87 G’s, while the Grand Cherokee 4x4 pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Blazer RS AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1 seconds quicker than the Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 (27.1 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 28.1 seconds @ .58 average G’s).

The Chevrolet Blazer may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 1200 pounds less than the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Blazer has 1.4 inches more rear legroom and .6 inches more rear shoulder room than the Grand Cherokee.

The front step up height for the Blazer is 1.8 inches lower than the Grand Cherokee (18.4” vs. 20.2”). The Blazer’s rear step up height is 2.5 inches lower than the Grand Cherokee’s (19” vs. 21.5”).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Blazer easier. The Blazer’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 30.3 inches, while the Grand Cherokee’s liftover is 33 inches.

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the Blazer’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

All models of the Blazer can be flat towed on all four wheels, allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Blazer can be unhitched and driven around locally. Only the Grand Cherokee 4WD can be dinghy towed and it requires equipment that is not standard.

The Blazer’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Grand Cherokee’s standard power windows’ rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

On a hot day the Blazer’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Grand Cherokee can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Blazer’s available exterior PIN entry system. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its extra cost Uconnect Access can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

The Blazer’s standard Keyless Open and Start allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Enter-N-Go standard on the Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

Consumer Reports rated the Blazer’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the Grand Cherokee’s headlights, which were rated “Good.”
